Jericho Pherson, the new Earl of Kilkar, is leaving his childhood home in Scotland to travel to one of the Emerald Isles. Far off the coast of Ireland is the Isle of Kilkar, where Jericho goes to claim his Earldom. Jericho has been preparing for this adventure unlike his brother Bartholomew.

Jericho understands his duty to the Kilkar clan. He will soon realize, however, that it would be easier to earn the respect of the entire Kilkar clans-folk than to capture the heart of the castle steward, Allison Kilkar. But, there is now a threat to the Kilkar clan, especially to Jericho and now, Allison.

Allison has lived in Greysage castle most of her life and has sat at her father’s knee as a young lass, learning the castle accounts and the running of the Greysage household. Allison Kilkar is Greysage’s steward, having garnered the respect of the Duchess of BlackRidge, the new Earl’s mother.  Allison is taking over the stewardship of Greysage from her ailing father, and she has big shoes to fill.

When the news comes from Scotland that the new Chieftain of the Kilkar clan is coming to claim all that is now his, the entire clan turns out for the new Earl’s arrival, including Allison. She puts on her best dress, polishes her best boots, and falls flat on her face when she sees for the first time what her future looks like.
